What you get for the effort.
A flying machine sugarcane harvester by TheySix. Instead of an observer and piston per plant, a slime and honey block machine flies the length of the field breaking every cane it passes, with eight hopper minecarts riding on the honey to catch the drops and unload into sixteen chests. The material list covers 809 plants and the design scales by adding more machines and more field rather than by stacking layers. It is by far the cheapest way to harvest this many plants, and by a wide margin the most fragile thing in the library.
The machine stops mid run constantly and that is the main complaint on the video. setacraft3860 and fachi. both trace it to sugarcane growing into the machine while it is advancing.
Minecarts fall out of the honey onto the ground, usually overnight. Several builders report it, TheySix has no fix and says only that a new version is coming.
Chunk loading is not optional. TheySix repeats that leaving the game, the server or the chunk breaks the machine, and two builders call it the mistake they wish they had avoided.
tower5318 traced their repeated breakages to wandering traders spawning in and walking into the flying machine.
marball points out minecarts can be pushed and lodged into a composter instead, which removes the whole honey block arrangement. TheySix had not heard of it and said he would rebuild the design around the idea.
Only the two front honey blocks are swappable. TheySix says the five slime blocks in the middle cannot be changed.
